Ty2 is a series of steam locomotives (steam locomotives) that were produced in the period from 1942 to 1945. Production was carried out by a dozen or so contractors, incl. in companies such as Schichau, Henschel or Borsig, but also in the German-occupied Poznań in HCP plants (Hipolit Cegielski plants). The service weight of a single locomotive was 143.6 tons, and its length with the tender was 22.98 m. The locomotive had a 1'E axle system. Ty2 steam locomotives were designed as the so-called war locomotives (German Kriegslokomotive), which meant that efforts were made to shorten the time of their production as much as possible and lower its costs. From the very beginning, it was assumed that steam locomotives of this type would serve the railway connection in Eastern Europe occupied by the Third Reich. For this reason, locomotives of this type were characterized by excellent thermal insulation and low axle load, which allowed them to move along tracks located on a poor-quality surface. They were also famous for their reliability and were relatively cheap to produce. After the end of World War II, over 1,200 locomotives of this type were delivered to PKP. Until now, more than 50 steam locomotives of this type have survived in our country.
